When I moved to Toronto, I was looking for some way to promote myself. I created a website smartwebsoft.com based on my past projects. The site is no longer live but mirror can be seen here.
Further to this project, I also tried additional business ideas. Some of those more-less completed are listed below (2002-2005):
As noted above, those activities were aimed to promote myself. There was no small business in Toronto, only concept_testing and learning during my free time.

Primary business activity was developing and selling business software (FoxPro 2.6 for DOS, Delphi 5 for windows). As company matured, additional, computer-related activities (computer services, hardware sale) contributed to bottom line revenue. Company also funded and operated two small copy&printing shops, strategically located at student dormitory and a prime location in a small town. Initial, break-through product, was "investment funds agenda" designed specifically for management of prospective small investors (called MIKs) during the 2nd wave of coupon privatization in Slovakia. This software dealt with a specific step in the privatization process whose lifespan was 3 years. This was only product on the market focusing on "MIK agenda" (otherwise, in-house solutions were used). An estimated market share was around 20% in both: "funds active in the 2nd wave" and "registered prospective investors (MIK s)". Further "SW development business" grew thanks to contacts and referrals gained during initial period. Most business applications supported specific line of business (billing/inventory/customers/leasing agreements), focusing on operational and taxation agenda. Most revenue was generated from customers in financial industry. Although perceived size and advancedness of whole business, it's core business activity (SW development, partially HW sale) was a one-man shop. Business had operated under small business license (živnosť). |
